The case for DMCH is narrower and more concrete than a list of adjectives. It is Bihar’s oldest medical college still in continuous operation (1946), its teaching hospital is the tertiary referral centre for the whole Mithila belt — Darbhanga, Madhubani, Sitamarhi, Samastipur, Begusarai — and its intake has just been raised from 120 to 150, which widens the entry rather than narrowing it. Against that, it is a district-town posting with no management or NRI seat to fall back on: your NEET rank is the only key that fits the lock.

How to read these four numbers before you act on them. They are All-India NEET-UG ranks under MCC counselling, not the Bihar state-quota cutoff — 85% of DMCH’s seats are filled by BCECEB through UGMAC, on a separate Bihar merit list, and a Bihar-domicile candidate will normally reach DMCH there at a rank that would not touch the AIQ. They are also Round 1 and provisional: Round 1 is the toughest point of the cycle, and Round 2, mop-up and stray-vacancy close at worse (higher) ranks, so treating 7,915 as “the 2026 cutoff” makes DMCH look further out of reach than it is. Nothing in this table should be averaged, projected forward, or compared across categories — SC, ST, OBC and EWS each run on their own merit list.

Evidence note: check the academic year beside every rank you see for DMCH anywhere. These are the 2026 Round-1 figures; the intake they were allotted against (150) is itself new this cycle, so 2024 and 2025 ranks were set on a smaller seat pool and are not like-for-like.

• The counselling record agrees. MCC allotted 23 All-India Quota MBBS seats at DMCH in Round 1 of 2026. The AIQ is 15% of sanctioned intake: 15% of 150 is 22.5, while 15% of 120 would have been 18. Two independent primary sources and the allotment itself point the same way.

💸 Cost of Studying MBBS at DMCH

In one line: government-quota tuition at DMCH is a low, state-regulated figure fixed by Bihar, and we do not print a rupee amount for it because we have not verified one against a current BCECEB or Government of Bihar circular — ask for the exact figure at document verification and match it against the demand note before paying.

Tuition is not the whole bill. Hostel and mess are billed annually and separately, BUHS registration and per-year examination fees are extra, and books and instruments are a one-time-ish outlay across the pre-clinical years. Even added up, a DMCH seat costs a small fraction of the ₹50 lakh–₹1 crore that Bihar’s private colleges charge for the same degree — which is exactly why 150 seats draw the competition they do. Any figure quoted to you above the official demand note is not a fee.

🏨 Hostel & Campus at DMCH

Separate hostels for men and women sit on the Laheriasarai campus alongside the teaching hospital, so clinical postings and casualty duties do not involve a commute. Current hostel capacity and charges are not listed in any DMCH document we have been able to verify; confirm both with the college office at reporting rather than budgeting from a number found online.

The one funding route that is specific to a Bihar college rather than to MBBS generally is the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, the state’s collateral-free education loan for Bihar-domicile students in higher education including MBBS. Confirm the current limit, eligibility and repayment terms on the official Bihar portal — they are revised, and the figure quoted on aggregator sites is often years out of date. Central and Bihar post-matric scholarships for SC/ST/EBC/BC and minority students, and ordinary bank education loans against the allotment letter, apply here as they do anywhere.

Three tiers, and the deciding variable is not prestige but which one your rank actually reaches. AIIMS Patna charges a token fee and takes the sharpest ranks nationally. DMCH charges a state-regulated government fee and reserves 85% of its 150 seats for Bihar domicile through BCECEB, which is what makes it attainable for a Bihar ranker who is nowhere near an AIIMS rank. Bihar’s private colleges will take a far lower rank and charge ₹50 lakh–₹1 crore for the same NMC degree. The honest rule does not change: take the cheapest seat your rank allows.
