PMCH has exactly two admission routes, both on NEET merit, run by different authorities on different calendars and closing at different ranks:

1. State quota (85%) — BCECEB: register on the Bihar Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board portal (bceceboard.bihar.gov.in) and take part in UGMAC counselling. Bihar domicile is required, and this is the route through which the large majority of PMCH seats are filled.
2. All-India Quota (15%) — MCC: register on mcc.nic.in. Open to candidates from any state, no Bihar domicile needed. This is the route whose 2026 Round-1 closing ranks are tabled below.
3. Register for both if you qualify for both. The two run on separate calendars, and neither carries your registration over to the other.

• It is Bihar’s largest government MBBS intake. At 200 sanctioned seats for AY 2025-26, PMCH is the biggest single government intake in the state — Nalanda Medical College Patna and IGIMS Patna are sanctioned 150 each and AIIMS Patna 125 (NMC seat matrix, AY 2025-26).

What is PMCH’s own: university examinations are set by Bihar University of Health Sciences (BUHS), Patna, which took over Bihar’s government medical colleges from Aryabhatta Knowledge University in 2022 — so PMCH degrees awarded before and after that changeover carry different university names. The internship stipend is fixed by Bihar government norms and is not listed here; confirm the current figure with the college.

🏥 PMCH sanctioned MBBS seats — and why two official records disagree

In one line: the NMC’s latest published seat matrix sanctions 200 MBBS seats at PMCH for AY 2025-26, but MCC’s 2026 Round-1 allotment filled 38 All-India Quota seats here — and 38 is 15% of 250, not of 200.

Why the two figures do not line up, stated plainly: the All-India Quota at a state government college is 15% of the sanctioned intake, so a Round-1 AIQ allotment of 38 points to an intake nearer 250 than 200 for the 2026-27 session. The same gap shows at Nalanda Medical College, Patna — sanctioned 150 in the NMC matrix, yet 30 AIQ seats allotted in Round 1, which is 15% of 200. Both numbers come from primary documents and both are reported here as they stand; what we will not do is resolve the gap by inventing a 2026-27 intake the regulator has not published. Treat 200 as the last confirmed figure and expect the 2026-27 number to be higher.

How to read this table — four things that will otherwise mislead you:

• This is the All-India Quota, not the Bihar cut-off. Only 15% of PMCH’s seats are filled this way. The 85% most Bihar candidates are competing for is filled by BCECEB in UGMAC counselling, on a separate merit list with its own published ranks — the 2024 reference for that route is further down this page. A number from one list must never be compared with a number from the other.
• Round 1 closes at the toughest rank of the whole cycle. Round 2, mop-up and stray-vacancy rounds close at worse (higher) ranks. Reading 3,570 as “the 2026 PMCH cut-off” makes the college look further out of reach than it is.
• These figures are provisional. MCC published them as a provisional Round-1 allotment on 21 August 2026, before the round was confirmed.
• PwD categories sit on a separate merit list. A PwD closing rank of 356,759 cannot be compared with the Open rank of 3,570 and does not mean a seat was going spare.

📅 Bihar MBBS Counselling 2026 — Rounds & Timeline

Bihar MBBS admission runs in sequential BCECEB (UGMAC) rounds — registration and document verification, choice filling, a mock allotment, then Round 1, Round 2, mop-up and stray vacancy — while the MCC All-India Quota rounds run in parallel on their own calendar. The mechanics of both, including the hold-and-upgrade rules that decide whether you keep or release an allotment, are covered once in the AIQ vs state-quota guide.

The PMCH-specific point: the two processes are not synchronised, so a PMCH state-quota allotment and an MCC allotment can land in different weeks and force a choice under a deadline. Exact 2026 dates come from BCECEB (bceceboard.bihar.gov.in) and MCC (mcc.nic.in); the calendars shift every year, so last year’s dates are not a guide.

💸 Cost of Studying MBBS at PMCH

In one line: the PMCH government-quota tuition for 2026-27 is not listed here, because we have not verified a figure against the document that sets it — BCECEB publishes the fee for each government college in the UGMAC brochure for that cycle, and that brochure is the only place to read it.

What can be said without a document: the fee at a Bihar government medical college is state-regulated and is a small fraction of what Bihar’s private medical colleges charge, which is exactly why the state-quota seats here are the most contested in Bihar. Beyond tuition, budget for hostel and mess, BUHS registration and examination fees, books and instruments, and living costs in Patna. Hostel and mess charges are not listed either — confirm the current rates with the college.

Why we would rather print “not listed”: a fee is the number a reader acts on with their own money. A plausible-looking figure with no document behind it is worse than an admitted gap.

🏨 Hostel, Campus & Student Life at PMCH

PMCH provides separate hostel accommodation for boys and girls on and around the Ashok Rajpath campus, alongside the teaching hospital. Current hostel capacity and charges are not listed — they are revised periodically and we have not verified them against a college circular, so confirm both directly with PMCH before counting on a room.

The Bihar-specific item to check before you accept a seat: Bihar government MBBS graduates may be subject to a compulsory service bond. Its tenure and penalty are set by state rules and change from cycle to cycle, and the current 2026-27 terms are not listed here — read the bond clause in the BCECEB (UGMAC) brochure for the cycle you are admitted in, not in a previous year’s copy. A bond is a financial commitment; it belongs in the same calculation as the fee.

🎓 The Bihar Student Credit Card, and the rest of the funding question

The Bihar-specific route is the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, the state government’s collateral-free education loan for eligible Bihar-domicile students, which covers higher studies including MBBS. The current limit, eligibility and terms are not listed here — read them on the official Bihar portal, since the scheme is revised.

The document that decides which PMCH route you are on is the Bihar residential / domicile certificate, in the form BCECEB specifies. With it you are eligible for the 85% state quota; without it, only for the 15% All-India Quota whose Round-1 ranks are tabled above. Cross-check the exact formats against the BCECEB (UGMAC) and MCC 2026 brochures, which are reissued each cycle.

⚠️ The mistake that is specific to PMCH

The generic counselling errors — too short a choice list, missed reporting windows, incomplete paperwork — are covered in the AIQ vs state-quota guide. The one that costs PMCH seats specifically is reading an All-India Quota rank as though it were the Bihar cut-off, or the reverse. The two lists on this page come from different authorities, cover different quotas and are labelled to different years — the MCC figure is the All-India Quota, Round 1 of 2026; the ~4,762 figure is the Bihar state quota in 2024. They are not two readings of the same thing and cannot be subtracted from one another. A Bihar-domicile candidate who writes off PMCH after reading only the All-India number has given up a seat that was inside reach.

⚖️ PMCH vs the other government medical colleges in Patna

In one line: Patna has five government medical colleges in the All-India Quota stream, and in MCC Round 1 of 2026 they closed in a clear order — AIIMS Patna first, then IGIMS, then PMCH, then Nalanda, then ESIC Bihta.

Three traps in this table. First, the rank column is the All-India Quota only — for four of these five colleges that is 15% of the seats, and a Bihar-domicile candidate’s real comparison is the BCECEB state-quota list, which is not this. Second, AIIMS Patna is not comparable at all: MCC allots its entire intake, so its number is not a 15% quota rank. Third, a tougher closing rank measures demand, not teaching quality — every college here is a government college with no management or NRI quota, so all of these are NEET-merit allotments.

Bihar’s private and trust-run medical colleges sit outside this table entirely: they charge a fee in a different order of magnitude, and their seats are still NEET-merit allotments at a published fee.
