ISB Hyderabad — Key Facts

The Indian School of Business (ISB) runs a 1-year PGP (Post Graduate Programme in Management) — ranked #1 in India and #12 worldwide in the FT Global MBA Ranking 2026. It operates Hyderabad and Mohali campuses (identical curriculum, faculty and placements) and selects purely on merit and work experience. Note: the PGP is MBA-equivalent education but is not a degree programme.

Quick Answer ISB's flagship 1-year PGP accepts a GMAT or GRE score with no minimum cutoff and no preference between the two tests (scores valid up to 5 years). Admission is holistic — analytical ability, leadership potential, 2+ years of work experience (minimum 24 months) and two essays matter as much as the test score; competitive profiles typically score around 700–710 GMAT, but ISB enforces no minimum. The official AY2026-27 fee is ₹38,67,160 all-in for shared accommodation, and about 25% of each cohort receives scholarship support.

The school holds the “triple crown” of international accreditations — AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA — and its PGP is MBA-equivalent in global recognition and career impact (though it is not a degree programme).

The ISB model is unique in India: no reservation, no management quota, purely merit + experience based selection. Candidates are evaluated on GMAT/GRE score, work experience quality, essays, recommendations and interview performance.

ISB PGP YL (Young Leaders) 2026: Eligibility, CAT/GMAT, Fees & Essays

ISB Young Leaders programme students in a campus classroom
ISB students in class — the PGP Young Leaders cohort is built for early-career talent.

The PGP Young Leaders (PGP YL) is ISB's accelerated path for early-career talent and fresh graduates — a 20-month residential programme (Hyderabad campus) for candidates with 0–2 years of work experience (a maximum of 24 months as of 15 June of the joining year; anyone with more should apply to the flagship PGP). Like the PGP, it is MBA-equivalent in content and rigour but, under Indian regulation, awards a certificate of completion — not an MBA degree. Applications are open for the Class of 2027–29, with a Round 1 deadline of 20 December 2026.

Eligibility & accepted tests (CAT is accepted here)

You need a bachelor's degree (three-year degrees accepted) with no minimum percentage/CGPA. Unlike the flagship PGP, PGP YL accepts GMAT (10th or Focus Edition), GRE, or CAT — with no minimum score and no preference between tests. Only test-centre-based scores are accepted (no online/at-home formats); GMAT/GRE scores must be ≤5 years old and only CAT 2025 scores are valid for this cycle. ISB test codes: GMAT N2D-J5-01, GRE 7010 / 7892. A valid TOEFL/IELTS is required if your undergraduate instruction was not in English.

Fees & scholarships

The PGP YL fee for AY2026-28 is ₹25,60,000 + taxes (shared accommodation, single installment) — covering admission, tuition, commitment fee and course material; accommodation is charged separately, plus a refundable security deposit of ₹20,000. Up to 40% of the class receives scholarship support: merit-based (up to 100% tuition), need-cum-merit (100% waiver for family income up to ₹8L; 75% for ₹8–20L), the ISB Develop India Scholarship, and donor-funded awards (Bharti Airtel Foundation, DSP, MPS, Regal Rexnord, Taparia Family, J.C. Flowers ARC and the Adani Accelerated Leadership Programme). Collateral-free education loans with moratoriums are available from Axis Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, Central Bank of India and Credila.

Application essays & process

PGP YL requires three mandatory essays — Leadership (400 words), Diversity in Thought (400 words), and Post-Programme Plan & Impact (250 words) — alongside academic transcripts, awards/activities and test scores. Admission runs through seven stages: submission → verification (within ~20 days) → interview shortlist → ~30-minute interview with two on-spot essays → admissions-committee review → decision → scholarship decision. For PGP YL queries, contact pgpyl@isb.edu or +91 80432 83921 (Mon–Fri, 9 AM–5 PM IST).

ISB Hyderabad PGP Fee Structure & ROI for 2026

ISB's PGPM fee is among the highest for a 1-year programme in India, but the ROI — given ₹34 LPA median and 100% placement — is industry-leading. Education loans are available from all major banks with moratorium during the programme.

Admission Process 2026: GMAT/GRE Cutoffs & Selection Criteria

ISB PGP admission is purely application-based with no entrance test of its own. You submit a GMAT or GRE score (taken independently) with a detailed application. ISB runs a staggered three-round cycle; applying in Round 1 maximises scholarship chances.

  1. GMAT or GRE: ISB enforces no minimum score and no preference between the two tests; scores are valid for 5 years. Competitive profiles typically score ~700–710 GMAT, but no cutoff is applied. ISB test codes: GMAT N2D-J5-01, GRE 7010 / 7892.
  2. Work Experience: Minimum 2 years (24 months) of full-time experience as of March 31. Quality of experience matters more than quantity; a three-year bachelor's degree is accepted, with no minimum percentage/CGPA.
  3. Online Application: Two mandatory essays — a Leadership Essay (400 words) and a Learning Approach Essay (400 words) — plus one optional essay (250 words), with academic transcripts, work-experience details, awards/recognitions and your GMAT/GRE scorecard.
  4. Verification & Review: ISB verifies the application (within ~20 days) and evaluates analytical thinking, leadership potential and commitment to growth holistically.
  5. Interview: Shortlisted candidates have a ~30-minute interview that includes two on-the-spot essays.
  6. Decision & Scholarship: The admissions committee reviews and notifies the decision, followed by a separate scholarship decision.

ISB Hyderabad Cutoff by Year (2023–2026)

ISB does not publish a closing-rank list or a minimum-score cutoff — its flagship PGP accepts a GMAT or GRE score (it does not use CAT) and selects holistically, weighing work experience, essays and profile alongside the test score. The year-wise blocks below organise each cohort's typical competitive score band (around 700–710 GMAT, with no minimum enforced) alongside its reported CTC, so you can jump straight to the ISB cutoff year you are searching for.

ISB Hyderabad Cutoff 2026 (GMAT / GRE / CAT benchmarks)

Scores are valid for 5 years; there is no preference between GMAT and GRE.

ISB Scholarships & Financial Aid

About 25% of each PGP cohort receives financial support every year. ISB funds nine scholarship categories (Merit, Need-cum-Merit, Merit-by-Diversity, Armed Forces, AIESEC and more), alongside donor-funded and dedicated international scholarships. Tuition waivers range from 25% to 100%, and every applicant is automatically considered for merit waivers (each applicant can receive only one tuition waiver).

FindUrCollege Tip: ISB's PGP Young Leaders track is one of the best routes for final-year engineering/commerce students — a strong GMAT/GRE and profile now can secure a deferred admission (a conditional offer, not a guaranteed seat) so you join later without competing against experienced professionals. The income-linked Need-cum-Merit waiver (up to 100% of tuition under ₹8L family income) is also worth planning your Round 1 application around. Reach out to us for YL and scholarship strategy.

ISB Curriculum & Academic Life

The ISB PGPM is structured around 8 terms across 12 months. Terms 1-4 focus on core management foundations: Financial Accounting, Managerial Economics, Statistics for Management, Organisational Behaviour, Marketing Management, Corporate Finance, Operations Management, and Strategy. Terms 5-8 are elective-heavy — students can choose from 75+ elective courses across specialisations.

ISB has a unique "Learning Teams" system where students work in fixed cross-functional groups throughout the programme. This simulates real corporate project environments and is one of the reasons ISB alumni are known for strong collaboration skills. Each learning team typically has 5-6 members drawn from diverse professional backgrounds — engineers, doctors, CAs, lawyers and business professionals.

Key Academic Features

ISB Clubs & Student Life

Despite being only 12 months long, ISB has a vibrant club ecosystem. 20+ student clubs cover Consulting Club, Finance & Investment Club, Marketing Club, Sports Management Club, Women in Business, and Social Entrepreneurship Club. Annual events include PanIIT-ISB case competition, ISB Finance Forum, and the flagship Marketing Conclave which brings CXOs from FMCG and tech companies.

ISB Alumni Network Strength

18,500+ ISB alumni across its PGP suite — including 800+ at CXO / top-leadership level — form one of India's most active business school alumni networks. The ISB alumni association runs regular city chapter events in 12 Indian cities and internationally in the US, Singapore and UAE. Alumni-to-student mentoring is structured — every ISB student gets 3 assigned mentors from different industries.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the ISB Hyderabad average package?
ISB Hyderabad reports an average package of around ₹34.21 LPA (Class 2024). ISB enforces no admission cutoff — selection is holistic via GMAT or GRE with no minimum score.
What GMAT score is needed for ISB?
ISB enforces no minimum GMAT score. Competitive applications typically present ~700-740, but a lower GMAT can be offset by exceptional work experience, strong essays and leadership credentials. A GRE score is accepted equally — ISB has no preference between GMAT and GRE, and scores are valid for 5 years.
How much does ISB PGPM cost and what is the ROI?
The official total cost of ISB's PGP for AY2026-27 is ₹38,67,160 (shared accommodation, all-in incl. GST + a refundable deposit; single accommodation is higher). The median domestic CTC for ISB Class 2024 is ₹32 LPA, with average ₹34.21 LPA, making the payback period roughly 14-18 months. Most education loans offer a moratorium during the 1-year programme.
Is ISB better than IIM A/B/C for MBA?
ISB and IIM A/B/C serve different audiences. ISB is best for experienced professionals (3-8 years) seeking a 1-year executive MBA with strong global recognition. IIM A/B/C 2-year PGP is better for candidates with less experience. For placements and ROI, ISB's 1-year format gives faster ROI. For brand within India, IIM A/B/C may have equal or stronger domestic recognition.
What is ISB's Young Leaders Programme?
YLP is ISB's pre-admission programme for final-year undergraduate students. You apply in your final year, appear for a selection process (no GMAT required at application), and if selected, get a conditional ISB admission offer. You then work for 2 years anywhere, and join ISB's PGPM directly without competing with other applicants. It's ISB's way of securing top undergraduate talent.
Does ISB have a Mohali campus? Is it equivalent to Hyderabad?
Yes, ISB has a Mohali campus which runs the same PGPM curriculum and shares faculty with Hyderabad. Placement statistics are combined, and the degree carries the same value. However, Hyderabad campus is larger (16 acres vs 70 acres Mohali) and has a more established alumni and recruiter network. Most candidates prefer Hyderabad if given a choice.
ISB's flagship PGP accepts a GMAT or GRE score only — it does not use CAT. There is no minimum score and no preference between the two tests, and scores are valid for up to 5 years. Admission is holistic: your work experience, essays, recommendations and interview weigh alongside the test. Competitive profiles typically score around 700-710 GMAT, but ISB enforces no cutoff. ISB test codes are GMAT N2D-J5-01 and GRE 7010 / 7892.
ISB's application process is primarily essay-driven, which is fundamentally different from the GD-PI format used by IIMs and most Indian B-schools. The application essays — two mandatory (a 400-word Leadership Essay and a 400-word Learning Approach Essay) plus one optional 250-word essay — require 6–8 weeks of serious preparation, involving drafting, getting feedback from admissions counsellors, and refining your narrative over multiple iterations. The essays test authentic reflection, clear thinking, and the ability to articulate impact and career vision in writing — skills that GD-PI preparation does not develop. This makes ISB application preparation a distinct expertise area, and candidates who invest in proper essay coaching report significantly better admission outcomes.
ISB receives approximately 4,000–5,000 applications annually for 900 seats, implying an acceptance rate of approximately 18–22%. However, among applicants with GMAT 700+ and 5+ years of quality experience, the acceptance rate is higher. The key differentiator at competitive GMAT levels is application quality — the essays, the recommendation letters, and the interview. Candidates with similar scores but different essay quality can have dramatically different outcomes. ISB's admission process genuinely rewards holistic excellence over any single metric.
Yes. FindUrCollege provides ISB-specific application support: GMAT preparation guidance, essay strategy and multiple-round review, recommendation letter coaching, profile positioning, and interview preparation. Our counsellors have worked with ISB applicants over multiple cycles and understand the nuances of what ISB's admissions committee looks for at each stage. Given that ISB's application outcome depends heavily on essay quality and interview preparation, professional guidance can make a meaningful difference in admission probability. Connect with us on WhatsApp at +91 91126 50438 for a free 30-minute ISB profile review.
ISB life is intense, immersive, and transformative. The 12-month programme moves at a pace that is described by alumni as "drinking from a firehose" — the combination of heavy academic workload, 100+ clubs and committees, networking events, recruiting preparation, and social activities creates an environment where time management is both a survival skill and a key learning outcome. The Hyderabad campus is beautiful — a well-designed, modern residential campus with excellent facilities, a vibrant social life, and a cohort of 900 diverse, high-achieving professionals who become lifelong personal and professional connections. Most ISB alumni describe their year at ISB as among the most challenging and rewarding of their lives.
For the right candidate — a professional with 3–7 years of experience who is targeting a significant career acceleration (consulting, investment banking, senior management, global roles, entrepreneurship) — ISB is almost certainly worth the ₹40–45 lakh investment. The average post-ISB salary of ₹32–36 LPA means the investment is recovered within 15–18 months of graduation. For consulting and banking placements at ₹50–80 LPA, payback comes within 6–8 months. The 10-year career earnings differential between ISB and non-ISB alternatives typically exceeds ₹2–4 crores — making the ₹40 lakh fee look modest in this context. The honest caveat: if you are not targeting significant career acceleration or are comfortable with your current trajectory, the ₹40 lakh investment may not be justified. ISB works best for candidates who are using it as a career catalyst, not a credential collection exercise.
ISB's Mohali campus (Punjab) was established to extend ISB's reach to North India and serves the same PGP programme as Hyderabad. The Mohali campus is smaller (350 students vs 550 at Hyderabad) and a few years younger, meaning the alumni network is less dense and some recruiters may prefer Hyderabad-campus candidates. However, the curriculum, faculty, and placement support are identical, and the Mohali campus leverages the Chandigarh-Mohali-Panchkula tri-city technology and manufacturing ecosystem for industry connections. Candidates can indicate campus preference in the application; assignments are based on both preference and admissions committee decisions.

Expert Tips for ISB Hyderabad Applicants

  1. Apply in Round 1 (September) for the best outcomes. ISB's Round 1 has the most available seats and is evaluated by an admissions committee at full capacity. Round 3 applicants receive significantly less consideration. Most successful ISB admits who plan strategically choose Round 1 as their primary application deadline and treat it with the same urgency as a final exam.
  2. Invest 6–8 weeks in essay preparation. The ISB essays are not something you can write in a weekend. Each essay should go through at least 5–6 drafts. Start with a brain-dump of career stories, then select the 4–5 most impactful ones, then structure each into a narrative that is specific, reflective, and forward-looking. Have at least one expert reviewer (an admissions counsellor, not just a friend) provide structured feedback on each essay.
  3. Choose your recommenders strategically, not just by seniority. A Vice President who barely knows your work is less valuable than a Senior Manager who worked closely with you on a major project. The ideal recommender has direct knowledge of your impact, can speak to specific examples of your leadership and analytical ability, and is willing to invest 3–4 hours in writing a thoughtful, customised recommendation rather than a generic praise letter.
  4. Research ISB specifically before the interview. ISB interviewers ask "Why ISB specifically?" in virtually every interview. Prepare a specific answer that references ISB's curriculum, specific faculty whose research interests align with yours, specific clubs (Consulting Club, Finance Club, Healthcare Initiative), and ISB alumni who work at your target companies. Generic answers about "world-class faculty and global network" fail this question — specific, researched answers pass it.
  5. Use ISB's leadership potential as your application theme. ISB is not just looking for accomplished professionals — it is looking for future global leaders. Frame every essay and interview response through the lens of leadership: how have you influenced others beyond your formal authority, how have you driven organisational change, and what kind of leader do you want to become? This narrative thread — from your current professional identity to your leadership potential and your post-ISB leadership vision — should run consistently through every element of your application.

ISB Hyderabad is India's most globally recognised MBA programme, and for experienced professionals targeting significant career acceleration — consulting, investment banking, senior management at MNCs, entrepreneurship, or global careers — there is no better option in India. The triple accreditation (AACSB + EQUIS + AMBA), FT top-30 global ranking, ₹32–36 LPA average placement, and access to a world-class alumni network of 15,000+ senior professionals globally make ISB's ₹40–45 lakh investment highly justified for the right candidate.

The right candidate for ISB is someone with 3–7 years of progressive professional experience, GMAT 700+, clear ambition for career acceleration, and the intellectual curiosity and emotional intelligence to thrive in a diverse, high-pressure 12-month programme. Candidates who approach ISB with a clear, specific career vision and invest seriously in their application essays and interview preparation consistently receive offers and consistently leave ISB with careers that justify every rupee of the investment.

The wrong candidate for ISB is someone who views it as a credential-collection exercise without a genuine career acceleration goal, or someone who applies with underprepared essays and a mediocre GMAT score hoping that experience alone will carry their application. ISB's holistic evaluation process is designed to surface authentic readiness and genuine potential — superficial applications are quickly identified and do not succeed. Apply with full preparation and full commitment, or wait another year to build a stronger profile. At ISB, the quality of your application preparation is a direct signal of the quality of your potential as a business leader — and the admissions committee reads that signal with considerable precision. FindUrCollege's ISB counsellors at +91 91126 50438 are ready to help you make that signal as strong as possible. We offer GMAT prep strategy sessions, essay workshops, mock interviews with ISB-specific preparation, and full application review services that have helped dozens of ambitious professionals secure ISB admission offers. Whether you are in the early stages of considering ISB or in the final stages of polishing your application for Round 1, our counsellors are available to help. The decision to pursue an ISB MBA is one of the most significant career and financial decisions of your professional life — make it with the best information, the best preparation, and the best guidance available.
