Is BITSoM Tier 1 or Tier 2? Ranking Explained
In one line: India has no official Tier-1/Tier-2 classification, and BITSoM is not individually listed in the NIRF 2025 Management ranking; judge it through audited outcomes, fee, batch and programme maturity.
Calling BITSoM “Tier 1” or “Tier 2” is an opinion, not a government or NIRF designation. The verifiable position is more useful: BITSoM is a young business school under the aegis of BITS Pilani; its audited Class of 2024 median package was ₹24 LPA, while its Class of 2028 has 241 students and a verified ₹28.55 lakh fee. Its programme-specific alumni network is naturally younger than legacy schools.
Practical verdict: shortlist BITSoM on fit and verified outcomes, not on an invented tier badge. Compare the same graduating year’s median placement, the same entry year’s total payable fee and programme-specific alumni depth.

BITSoM CAT, GMAT, GMAT Focus and GRE Cutoff
In one line: there is no published BITSoM cutoff — none of the four accepted entrance exams carries a qualifying score. The numbers below describe the students who got in for the Class of 2028. They are not a bar you have to clear.

GMAT and GMAT Focus are different test editions on different scales — a 660 Focus median is not a lower bar than the 710 classic median. Convert scores on GMAC's official concordance before comparing.
Why this is not a cutoff table
BITSoM’s own class-profile page states that its evaluation is not restricted to CAT, GMAT or GRE scores. Academic record, extracurricular achievements and demonstrated leadership are also considered. It explicitly warns that the displayed scores are not cutoffs and that scoring higher does not automatically secure admission.
Worked example: an 84.17 CAT percentile appears at the lower end of the admitted range, but it does not mean every 84.17 candidate qualifies. It only proves that at least one admitted profile sat at that score within a holistic process.

The background mix records who enrolled, not a quota — a 0.4% science share does not mean science graduates are screened out; the process is holistic with no single archetype.

BITSoM MBA Eligibility Criteria
In one line: you need a recognised degree and one accepted score — CAT, GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE — and you apply only through BITSoM’s own admissions portal. Meeting the eligibility bar is not the same as getting a shortlist.
- You need a recognised undergraduate degree, or you must finish your degree requirements before you join.
- Submit one accepted score — CAT, GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE — in the form the cycle’s official application asks for.
- Freshers are eligible—the latest class profile includes 20.9% freshers.
- Hitting a class-profile median does not make you eligible and does not get you shortlisted — those numbers only describe people who were already admitted.
- If you hold an international qualification, or you are not sure whether your score is still valid, check the live application form for the round you are applying to — do not assume last cycle’s answer still holds.

Three things to read literally here. First, you get one application, in one round — not both. BITSoM’s Round-2 card says students “can apply in both Round 1 and Round 2 with CAT, GMAT, GMAT Focus, and/or GRE scores”, which reads like two chances; the note under the same table is the binding rule and says “you may apply once per application year in any one of the two application rounds”. The first sentence is about which tests are accepted in either round. So choosing your round is a real decision — Round 1 is not a free attempt with Round 2 held in reserve, and BITSoM states that each round “represents a distinct period in which you may apply, not a succession of steps for your application”. Second, submitting the form is not applying. In BITSoM’s words an application is “considered complete and will be forwarded to the review team only after you enter your test scores”, so if your CAT result is not out when you submit, you have to come back and enter it. Third, the CAT deadline and the GMAT/GRE deadline are different: if you are waiting on CAT 2026 results you still have until 12 January 2027 to submit the score for Round 1, even though the application itself closes on 15 November 2026. Applying in Round 1 with a GMAT you already hold is the earlier, less crowded route; waiting for CAT means a Round 2 application.

In one line: ₹28.55 lakh fee versus ₹24 LPA audited median is a useful comparison, but it is not a 14-month payback promise.
The fee is a two-year cash outflow; the placement figure is annual gross CTC, not take-home salary. Taxes, variable pay, loan interest, meals, books and two years of foregone income sit outside a simple fee-to-CTC ratio. Therefore, do not divide ₹28.55 lakh by ₹24 lakh and call the result a guaranteed break-even period.
