Quick Answer VITEEE is the computer-based entrance of VIT for B.Tech admission to its Vellore, Chennai, AP and Bhopal campuses. Branch and campus are allotted through VIT’s own rank-based counselling. VITEEE 2026 was held from 28 April to 3 May 2026 — see viteee.vit.ac.in.

VITEEE — Key Facts

  • Conducting body: VIT (Vellore Institute of Technology)
  • Purpose: admission to the B.Tech programmes at the VIT campuses — Vellore, Chennai, Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) and Bhopal
  • Mode & frequency: computer-based, held over a window in late April and early May — 28 April to 3 May in 2026 — with two sessions a day and the number of days varying by test city
  • Eligibility: Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics or Biology — 60% aggregate in the three subjects and at least 50% in Mathematics (or Biology) on its own; date of birth on or after 1 July 2004
  • 2026 cycle: finished. Applications closed 12 April, the exam ran 28 April–3 May, results came in the second week of May, counselling ran in five phases and the batch was inducted 13–18 July 2026.

VITEEE 2026 Exam Overview

Where the 2026 cycle stands, checked 10 September 2026: it is over. Applications closed on 12 April 2026, the exam ran 28 April–3 May, results were declared in the second week of May, counselling ran in five phases, and VIT’s own induction schedule put the 2026–27 B.Tech batch on campus on 13–18 July 2026. Read VIT’s own portal with care. On 10 September 2026 viteee.vit.ac.in still loads under the title “VITEEE 2026 Applications Open”, still shows a Register/Login form, and still advertises a slot-booking link whose host no longer resolves at all. An archived copy from 30 March 2026 carries the same title, so that banner has not been touched since before the exam — it is a page nobody updated, not an open cycle. And there are no VITEEE 2027 dates yet: the string “2027” does not appear anywhere on the VITEEE site. If you are aiming for 2027, watch that portal; do not act on a date you find elsewhere, and do not confuse VITEEE with VITREE-2027, which is VIT’s Ph.D. entrance.

VITEEE is mandatory for Indian nationals seeking B.Tech admission at VIT — that is its exact scope, and it is narrower than “the gateway to VIT”. VIT’s own admissions FAQ says B.Des, B.Arch, B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc., B.Com., BBA, MSW, M.Arch and the five-year integrated programmes admit directly, without VITEEE. Even within B.Tech it is not the only door: NRI and foreign-national applicants apply through separate VIT forms. What VITEEE does control is the B.Tech seat for an Indian national at any of the four campuses, through one rank and one counselling. Many candidates sit it alongside JEE Main.

VITEEE 2026 Important Dates

📌 In one line: the 2026 cycle is closed. These are the dates it actually ran on.

EventWindow (2026)
RegistrationClosed 12 April 2026
VITEEE exam28 Apr – 3 May 2026
Result declared2nd week of May 2026 (VIT’s published window)
Online counsellingstarted 2nd week of May 2026, run in five phases
Batch inductedhostel reporting 12/14/16 July; induction 13–18 July 2026

Two of VIT’s own documents still show the wrong closing date. Applications closed on 12 April 2026 — VIT extended the deadline in early April — but the VITEEE 2026 prospectus and VIT Bhopal’s admission site were never reissued and both still print 31 March 2026. The 12 April date is the operative one and VIT’s portal has shown it since. On the exam window: VIT labels 28 April–3 May “tentatively” on every surface to this day and has never published a post-exam confirmation, so it is VIT’s scheduled window rather than a confirmed one — though the July induction makes clear the cycle ran.

VITEEE 2026 Eligibility

📌 In one line: two separate marks tests, not one, and an age bar most pages leave out.

  • 60% aggregate across Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics — and separately at least 50% in Mathematics on its own. Biology replaces Mathematics if you are applying to the bio-stream branches.
  • Relaxed to 50% aggregate for SC and ST applicants, and for candidates from Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh and the eight North-Eastern states named by VIT. A community or nativity certificate is checked at counselling.
  • Date of birth on or after 1 July 2004. VIT states this plainly and it rules people out.

Read those first two as two tests. VIT publishes the trap in its own FAQ: a candidate with 62% overall but 53.35% in PCM asked whether they were eligible, and the answer was one word — no. Clearing the aggregate does not rescue a low Mathematics score.

VITEEE Exam Pattern & Marking

  • Subjects: Mathematics/Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Aptitude and English
  • Computer-based test
  • Questions: 125 — Mathematics or Biology 40, Physics 35, Chemistry 35, Aptitude 10, English 5 — in 2 hours 30 minutes
  • Slot booking: you pick your test city, date and slot yourself through VIT’s Online Test Booking System, first-come-first-served. Once booked, neither the slot nor the city can be changed.
  • No re-check: VIT does not re-total or re-rank, and answer sheets are not released.
  • Marking, new in 2026: +4 for a correct answer, −1 for a wrong one, 0 for unanswered. VITEEE 2025 had no negative marking.

There is no “out of 500”, and that matters. No VIT document states a total-marks figure — 500 is just 125×4, and thinking in raw marks gives you the wrong model of how your rank is produced. The prospectus builds the rank list on your percentile, applying a normalisation procedure across sessions, because VITEEE runs over several days with two sittings a day. A harder afternoon paper is not compared directly against an easier morning one.

What changed in 2026: negative marking arrived. VITEEE 2025 scored +1 for a correct answer and 0 for a wrong one, with no penalty — VIT’s own page said so. From 2026 it is +4, −1, 0. Guessing that cost you nothing last year costs you now, and that is the single biggest change to how the paper should be attempted.

Official source: VITEEE 2026 Prospectus §7.1(b), §7.1(c) and §9.1, and the VITEEE 2026 portal’s Exam Pattern; the 2025 marking scheme from VIT’s own VITEEE page as archived on 9 February 2025. Captured 10 September 2026.

Colleges Accepting VITEEE 2026 — the whole list

📌 In one line: four campuses, all of them VIT’s own. No other university accepts VITEEE.

CampusLocation
VIT VelloreVellore, Tamil Nadu
VIT ChennaiChennai, Tamil Nadu
VIT-APAmaravati, Andhra Pradesh
VIT BhopalBhopal, Madhya Pradesh

That is the entire list, and it is worth being blunt about why. VITEEE is VIT’s own entrance exam and no university outside the VIT group accepts it. MIT Manipal is the one you will most often see listed alongside VIT, and it does not accept VITEEE — it admits B.Tech through the Manipal Entrance Test, and the word VITEEE does not appear on its programme page at all. If you are considering both, they are two exams and two applications: MIT Manipal (MET route).

For the group-level picture — fees, placements and branch detail across all four campuses — see our VIT University B.Tech admission page, and VIT Vellore for the flagship campus on its own. Vellore and Chennai belong to the deemed-to-be university; VIT-AP and VIT Bhopal are separate state private universities. It makes no difference to how you apply — one exam, one rank, one counselling covers all four.

Official source: VITEEE 2026 Prospectus p.2, which footnotes every programme “Programme Available at (1) VIT-Vellore, (2) VIT-Chennai, (3) VIT-AP, (4) VIT-Bhopal”, and the “Our Campuses” links on viteee.vit.ac.in; MIT Manipal’s own B.Tech programme page (manipal.edu/mit/program-list/btech.html). VITEEE 2026 Cutoff — why there isn’t one

📌 In one line: VIT publishes no VITEEE cutoff, and says so itself. Any number you find is a guess.

This is the question the page gets asked most, and the honest answer is that the document does not exist. VIT’s own FAQ puts it plainly: admission is on the merit rank from VITEEE, “therefore it differs from year to year”, and “it is only after you are ranked from the VITEEE and attend counselling that you may tentatively guess the rank range required for a particular branch”. VIT adds its own warning against the sites that fill the gap: “Do not believe any social media sources as they might mislead you.”

Two things get mistaken for a cutoff, so be clear about both. The first is the fee category. VIT’s Category-0 to Category-5 bands are fee bands, not rank bands — VIT publishes no rank-to-category mapping anywhere, and the prospectus says you select your fee category at counselling, subject to your rank and to seats being available. The second is the scholarship table, which is real and is the only rank-banded thing VIT publishes:

VITEEE rankGVSDP scholarship
1–10100% tuition waiver, all four years
11–5075% tuition waiver
51–10050% tuition waiver
101–50025% tuition waiver

Official source: VITEEE 2026 Prospectus §12 (VITEEE-GVSDP scholarship) and the VITEEE portal FAQ on cutoffs; vit.ac.in/admissions/overview (“Required ranks vary year to year based on applicants and seat availability”). Captured 10 September 2026.

VITEEE Counselling and VIT Admission Process 2026

📌 In one line: one counselling for all four campuses, five phases, and you choose three things — not two.

VIT runs a single centralized counselling for the whole group. On your rank you select campus, programme and fee category; the third choice is the one most pages leave out, and it is the one that decides what you pay. Counselling ran in five phases in 2026, and taking part costs a non-refundable Rs 5,900, payable once results are declared.

The part to slow down on: VIT states that once a campus, programme or fee category is allotted, it cannot be changed. There is no later round in which to trade up a branch or move campus. Decide your order of preference before you sit down to fill it, not during.

Official source: VITEEE 2026 counselling portal (ugresults.vit.ac.in/viteee2026/) and VITEEE 2026 Prospectus §10. Captured 10 September 2026.

VIT B.Tech Fees 2026–27

📌 In one line: six fee bands, chosen at counselling — and the band you land in changes the four-year cost by more than Rs 12 lakh.

Fee categoryGroup A programmesGroup B programmesGroup C programmes
Category-0Nil (100% waiver)NilNil
Category-1Rs 1,73,000Rs 1,95,000Rs 2,07,000
Category-2Rs 2,32,000Rs 3,04,000Rs 2,66,000
Category-3Rs 3,40,000Rs 4,02,000Rs 3,74,000
Category-4Rs 3,65,000Rs 4,45,000Rs 3,99,000
Category-5 (“No Scholarship”)Rs 3,95,000Rs 4,90,000Rs 4,29,000

How to read this table. These are annual tuition figures for AY 2026–27, per year, and nothing here should be multiplied to produce a “total cost” — hostel, mess and the one-time refundable Rs 5,000 caution deposit sit outside them, and VIT can revise tuition between years. There are six bands, not five: Category-0 is a full waiver and Category-5 is the unsubsidised fee. And to say it once more, because it is the mistake this table invites: these are not rank bands. You pick a category during counselling against what your rank can reach.

One caution about the source itself. VIT’s fee page carries a leftover “Academic Fee – 2025 – 2026” heading directly above the 2026–27 table with nothing under it, and lower down the same page quotes a Rs 3,000 caution deposit where the category table says Rs 5,000. Check the figure against the demand note you are actually issued before paying.

Frequently Asked Questions — VITEEE 2026

Who conducts VITEEE and what is it for?
VITEEE is conducted by VIT for B.Tech admission to its Vellore, Chennai, Amaravati (AP) and Bhopal campuses.
When is VITEEE 2026?
The 2026 cycle is over. VIT scheduled VITEEE 2026 for 28 April to 3 May 2026, over several days with two sessions a day and the number of days varying by test city; results came in the second week of May and the batch was inducted in July 2026. No VITEEE 2027 dates have been published — the VITEEE site does not mention 2027 at all — so watch viteee.vit.ac.in, and be aware that its banner still reads “Applications Open” from the 2026 cycle.
Is there negative marking in VITEEE?
Yes, and it is new. VITEEE 2026 scores +4 for a correct answer, -1 for a wrong one and 0 for unanswered. VITEEE 2025 had no penalty at all — +1 correct, 0 wrong — so guessing that was free last year is not free now. VIT publishes no total-marks figure, because your rank is built from a normalised percentile rather than a raw score.
What subjects are in VITEEE?
Mathematics or Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Aptitude and English.
How is admission done after VITEEE?
Through VIT’s own rank-based counselling, where you select branch and campus by your VITEEE rank and preferences.
Is VITEEE accepted by any college other than VIT?
No. VITEEE is VIT's own entrance exam and only the four VIT campuses admit through it - Vellore, Chennai, VIT-AP at Amaravati and VIT Bhopal. MIT Manipal is the college most often listed alongside VIT in “accepting VITEEE” lists, and it does not: it admits B.Tech through the Manipal Entrance Test, and the word VITEEE does not appear on its own B.Tech programme page. If you want both, that is two exams and two applications.
What is the VITEEE cutoff for CSE?
VIT does not publish one, for CSE or for any branch. Its own FAQ says admission is on the VITEEE merit rank and “therefore it differs from year to year”, and that you can only guess a rank range after you are ranked and attend counselling - it even warns readers not to trust social-media sources on this. The only rank bands VIT publishes are the GVSDP scholarship tiers: ranks 1-10 get a full tuition waiver, 11-50 get 75%, 51-100 get 50% and 101-500 get 25%. Fee Categories 0 to 5 are fee bands, not rank bands.
Can I get B.Tech at VIT without VITEEE?
Only if you are not an Indian national. VIT's wording is that attending VITEEE is mandatory for Indian nationals to be eligible for B.Tech admission; NRI and foreign-national applicants apply through separate VIT forms instead. VIT's other undergraduate programmes are a different matter - B.Des, B.Arch, B.Sc.(Hons.) Agriculture, B.Sc., B.Com., BBA and the five-year integrated degrees admit directly, with no VITEEE. Be wary of anyone offering a B.Tech seat at VIT outside these routes.
