MIT Manipal College Overview — Identity, Recognition & Institute Code
📌 In one line: MIT Manipal is a private, self-financing engineering institute inside a deemed-to-be university — which is why it runs its own entrance test and its own fee schedule instead of a state counselling seat matrix.
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Institute Name | Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal |
| Also Known As | MIT Manipal; MIT MAHE. Not to be confused with MIT Bengaluru, a separate MAHE campus with a different fee schedule and a different programme list, or with Manipal University Jaipur. |
| Institute Type | Private, self-financing. A constituent institution of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE), which is a deemed-to-be university, is accredited NAAC A++ with a CGPA of 3.65 in its third accreditation cycle, valid 31 May 2022 to 30 May 2027, and holds Institution of Eminence status conferred by the Ministry of Education. This is not a government college — there is no state-regulated fee, no state CAP or KEA seat matrix, and no government subsidy on the fee you will pay. |
| Established | 1957 — described by the institute as “one of the first self-financing engineering colleges in the country” |
| Location | Manipal, Udupi district, coastal Karnataka. Nearest city Udupi; nearest airport Mangaluru. |
| Degree Offered | Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech), 4 years / 8 semesters. Fourteen B.Tech branches are named in MIT Manipal's own 2026 course list, across the computer, electrical, mechanical, civil and chemical streams. That page's headline count reads “17 programmes” because its table counts the Electronics Engineering line as its four specialisations — Biomedical Engineering, Cyber Physical Systems, Instrumentation and VLSI Design and Technology — rather than as one branch: the other thirteen branches plus those four specialisations make seventeen. Fourteen is the number of branches you actually choose between on a preference list. |
| Exams Accepted | MET 2026 (Manipal Entrance Test) as the main route; JEE Main through the Common Rank List as a separate route with a higher Class 12 requirement; SAT or Class 12 marks under the Foreign/NRI category. |
| Institute Code | NIRF institute identifier IR-E-C-7252. Use it to pull MIT Manipal's own ranking submission from nirfindia.org and read the placement and intake numbers the institute filed itself — that is the one public document where the college's figures are on the record. MIT Manipal has no KEA or COMEDK college code, because it does not take part in Karnataka's state counselling. |

MIT Manipal B.Tech Fee Structure 2026-27
📌 In one line: the fee does not climb year on year — it is flat across all four years, and the only thing that changes your total is which branch you get.
MAHE publishes the whole four-year commitment for the entering batch in one schedule, so a 2026-27 entrant can see the full bill on day one. The fee is identical for every MET-qualified student in a given branch: rank does not change the price, and there is no separate quota pricing.
| Branch group (2026-27 entry) | Annual fee | Year 1 instalment | 4-year total | Includes | Excludes | How to read this row |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Computer Science & Engineering · Computer Science & Financial Technology · Electronics & Communication · Mathematics & Computing | ₹6,08,000 | ₹6,18,000 | ₹24,42,000 | Tuition ₹3,76,000 + other fee ₹2,32,000 each year; ₹10,000 refundable caution deposit in year 1 | Hostel, mess, hostel deposit, AC electricity advance, travel, personal spending | The top band. Year 1 looks ₹10,000 higher only because the one-time refundable caution deposit sits in it — that is not a fee increase. |
| Aeronautical · Mechatronics | ₹4,89,000 | ₹4,99,000 | ₹19,66,000 | Tuition ₹3,03,000 + other fee ₹1,86,000 each year; ₹10,000 refundable caution deposit in year 1 | As above | ₹4,89,000 is the figure most often quoted online as “MIT Manipal CSE first-year fee”. It is not CSE's fee — it is the annual fee for these two branches. |
| Mechanical · Civil · Chemical · Biotechnology · Electrical & Electronics · Electronics Engineering | ₹4,48,000 | ₹4,58,000 | ₹18,02,000 | Tuition ₹2,77,000 + other fee ₹1,71,000 each year; ₹10,000 refundable caution deposit in year 1 | As above | ₹6,40,000 less than the computer band over four years. If the branch genuinely suits you, that gap is the single biggest lever on your total cost here. |
| Automobile · Industrial Engineering | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | Not listed | Both branches are named in MIT Manipal's course list, but MAHE's 2026-27 General Category schedule carries no four-year fee for either — they appear in it only as three-year lateral-entry rows, “B.Tech in Automobile Engineering - Lateral” and “B.Tech Industrial Engineering - Lateral”. Do not read either of the bands above as covering them: ask MAHE in writing what the four-year fee is before you put either branch on a preference list. |
| Foreign / NRI — CSE, CS & FinTech, ECE, Maths & Computing | US$15,150 | US$15,350 | US$60,800 | Tuition US$9,450 + other fee US$5,700 each year; US$200 refundable caution deposit in year 1 | Hostel and mess, billed separately in USD for this category | Billed in US dollars, so your rupee cost moves with the exchange rate. Budget the swing, not the sticker. |
| Foreign / NRI — Aeronautical, Mechatronics | US$7,650 | US$7,850 | US$30,800 | As above, with a US$200 caution deposit | As above | Roughly half the NRI computer-band fee. |
| Foreign / NRI — Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Biotechnology, EEE, Electronics | US$7,050 | US$7,250 | US$28,400 | As above, with a US$200 caution deposit | As above | The lowest NRI band. |
Official source: MAHE, 2026-27 General Category Course Fees (as on 04-07-2026), the “Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal — Under Graduate Programs” table, and 2026-27 Foreign / NRI Category Course Fees (as on 18-06-2026), both published on manipal.edu/mu/admission/fees.html. Captured 17 August 2026.
What the total actually looks like. Add the compulsory hostel and mess to the course fee and a first-year CSE student living in a non-AC triple room pays about ₹7.46 lakh in year one (₹6,18,000 + ₹1,27,500), while the same student in an AC double pays about ₹8.10 lakh. Over four years, a CSE student staying in hostel throughout is looking at roughly ₹29.5–34.6 lakh all-in, depending on room type — with the caveat that MAHE re-issues the hostel schedule annually, so only year one is a published number and the later years are an arithmetic projection from it, not a promise.
MIT Manipal has no state-regulated fee because MAHE is a deemed-to-be university, and no fee-regulating authority sets these numbers. That cuts both ways: the schedule is transparent and published up front, but there is no external body you can appeal a revision to. MIT Manipal Hostel & Mess Fees 2026
📌 In one line: the room rent is only part of it — the ₹62,000 annual mess advance is compulsory for first-year hostellers, so read the total column, not the rent column.
| Hostel & room type (B.Tech first year, MIT campus) | Annual hostel facilities fee | Deposit (refundable) | AC electricity advance | Annual mess advance | Total payable in year 1 | How to read this row |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Boys, Blocks V & VI — triple, common bath, non-AC (limited seats) | ₹58,000 | ₹7,500 | — | ₹62,000 | ₹1,27,500 | The cheapest room on campus. Marked limited-seat in MAHE's own schedule, so do not budget on getting it. |
| Boys, Blocks V & VI — double, common bath, non-AC | ₹61,000 | ₹7,500 | — | ₹62,000 | ₹1,30,500 | ₹3,000 more than the triple for one fewer roommate. |
| Boys, Blocks XVI & XVII — double, attached bath, AC | ₹1,05,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹62,000 | ₹1,92,000 | The AC rooms carry a higher deposit and a separate electricity advance — two extra lines the non-AC rooms do not have. |
| Boys, Blocks XVI & XVII — deluxe double, attached bath, AC | ₹1,16,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹62,000 | ₹2,03,000 | “Deluxe” costs ₹11,000 a year over the standard AC double. |
| Boys, Block XIX — single, attached bath, non-AC | ₹1,33,000 | ₹7,500 | — | ₹62,000 | ₹2,02,500 | A non-AC single costs almost the same as a deluxe AC double. Privacy is the thing you are buying, not comfort. |
| Boys, Blocks XVIII & XIX — single, attached bath, AC | ₹1,62,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹62,000 | ₹2,54,000 | The most expensive option — twice the total of the non-AC triple. |
| Girls, Blocks I–IV — triple, common bath, non-AC | ₹58,000 | ₹7,500 | — | ₹62,000 | ₹1,27,500 | Same tariff as the equivalent boys' room. |
| Girls, Block VII — double, attached bath, AC | ₹1,05,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹62,000 | ₹1,92,000 | Same tariff as the equivalent boys' room. |
| Girls, Block XXII — double, attached bath, AC (limited seats) | ₹1,27,000 | ₹15,000 | ₹10,000 | ₹62,000 | ₹2,14,000 | ₹22,000 a year above the Block VII AC double for the same room description. |
Official source: MAHE Prospectus 2026, Section 3 — Course Fees, Hostel Fees & Refund, table headed “Schedule of Hostel Facilities Fees, B.Tech 1st Year Students, MIT Campus, Manipal — General Category Students” (page 475). Captured 17 August 2026.
- Mess is not optional. MAHE's schedule states that messing is mandatory for all first-year undergraduates staying in hostel. The ₹62,000 is an advance against the year's meals, not a deposit you can decline.
- The hostel fee buys one academic year. MAHE's own note says accommodation must be renewed each year at the applicable fee, so treat the figures above as year-one numbers and expect a fresh schedule for year two.
- Rooms are allotted online, first come first served. Selection happens on MAHE's hostel portal after admission, and a chosen room is held for a short window before payment. Publication of a room type in the schedule does not guarantee you will be allotted it.
- Refund is not full after classes begin. MAHE's schedule provides a full refund only if you withdraw before the class commencement date; after that a fixed deduction applies. Read the refund clause before you book a premium room.
MIT Manipal B.Tech Placements
📌 In one line: the median is the honest number, and MIT Manipal's own filing puts it at ₹8,50,000 for the batch that graduated in 2023-24.
The table below is MIT Manipal's own submission to the National Institutional Ranking Framework for India Rankings 2025 — the institute fills it in, signs it and the Ministry of Education publishes it. It is the only placement data MIT Manipal puts on the public record.
| Graduating batch | Graduated in minimum stipulated time | Placed | Median salary of placed graduates | Selected for higher studies | How to read this row |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2023-24 | 1,755 | 1,140 | ₹8,50,000 | 288 | 65% of the batch was placed. Adding higher studies accounts for 81% of the batch — but placement and higher studies are two different outcomes and should not be quoted as a single “81% placement” figure. |
| 2022-23 | 1,664 | 1,136 | ₹8,88,250 | 281 | The best median of the three years. The median has not risen steadily — it went up, then came down. |
| 2021-22 | 1,879 | 1,090 | ₹8,00,000 | 229 | 58% placed, the weakest of the three years on that measure. |
Official source: NIRF India Rankings 2025 — Data Submitted by Institution, Manipal Institute of Technology [IR-E-C-7252], section “Placement & Higher Studies, UG 4-Year Programme”, published at nirfindia.org. Captured 17 August 2026.
What MIT Manipal does say about recruiters. Its placements page states that “300+ recruiting teams, including 50+ Fortune 500 companies, visit MIT Manipal for UG and PG campus placements and internships recruitment every year.” That is a recruiter-count claim, not an offer-count claim — a company visiting campus is not the same as a company making offers, and the two get conflated constantly in college marketing.
How to use the median. A median of ₹8.50 lakh means half the placed students were offered less than that. Combine it with the placement rate and the realistic planning assumption for a general B.Tech student here is: a roughly two-in-three chance of a campus offer, and if you get one, an even chance of it landing below ₹8.5 lakh. Model your education loan against that, not against the headline number — a ₹24.42 lakh CSE fee against an ₹8.5 lakh median is a materially different proposition from the same fee against a ₹12 lakh “average”.
MIT Manipal MET Cutoff & Closing Ranks
📌 In one line: MAHE does not publish branch-wise MET closing ranks, so any year-wise “MIT Manipal cutoff” table you find is somebody's estimate, not a cutoff.
What is actually published. MAHE releases a MET rank to each candidate and then runs its own online counselling, in which seats are allotted against branch preferences in rank order across multiple rounds. It does not publish, in any admission document or on manipal.edu, the last rank admitted to each branch in each year. That is a deliberate difference from state counselling systems such as KEA or the Maharashtra CAP rounds, which publish a full closing-rank matrix after every round.
What that means for you. There is no verified rank you can measure yourself against before results. The reliable planning inputs are the ones MAHE does publish: the MET pattern and marking scheme, the eligibility floor, and the conditional second attempt. Rank hard on the paper, fill every branch you would genuinely accept in preference order, and stay in the upgrade rounds — that is the entire mechanism.
MIT Manipal cutoff by year — 2021 to 2025
There is no branch-wise closing-rank list for MIT Manipal for 2025, 2024, 2023, 2022 or 2021. MAHE released a MET rank to each candidate in every one of those years and allotted seats against it, but it has not published the last rank admitted to any branch in any of them, and it publishes no back-year archive either. So there is nothing to tabulate here, and a year-wise “MIT Manipal cutoff” table found elsewhere has been reverse-engineered from student reports rather than released by the university. Read one as hearsay, not as a threshold you can plan a preference list around.
If you want to benchmark against colleges that do publish closing data, compare the VIT Vellore and Thapar pages, or the JEE Main percentile-to-college guide for the JEE route.
About MIT Manipal: Campus, the MAHE Ecosystem & Where It Ranks
Manipal Institute of Technology was established in 1957 and describes itself as one of the first self-financing engineering colleges in India. It is a constituent institution of Manipal Academy of Higher Education, a deemed-to-be university accredited NAAC A++ with a CGPA of 3.65 in its third accreditation cycle, which runs to 30 May 2027, and conferred Institution of Eminence status by the Ministry of Education.
The campus sits in Manipal, in Udupi district on the Karnataka coast, and shares the town with MAHE's medical, dental, pharmacy, nursing, architecture and management institutions. That co-location is the genuinely unusual feature: an engineering student here lives on a campus that also runs a teaching hospital and a pharmacy school, which is rare in Indian private engineering and does open interdisciplinary project routes that a standalone engineering campus cannot offer.
On scale, MIT Manipal's own NIRF 2025 submission reports a sanctioned undergraduate intake of 2,400 for 2023-24, 8,226 undergraduate students across all years, 890 postgraduate students and 735 faculty members. Of the undergraduates, 156 are from outside India. It also reports 73 sponsored research projects in 2023-24 drawing ₹5.34 crore, and 2,334 consultancy projects.
Satya Nadella of Microsoft is listed on MAHE's own alumni page as “Mr. Satya Nadella, Executive Chairman & CEO, Microsoft — Batch 1984 (E&C), MIT, Manipal”. E&C is Electronics & Communication, not Computer Science, which is the department the association is usually attached to. That is the whole of what the institute states about him: a batch year and a branch, with no graduating year given.
Official source: MAHE, Alumni page (manipal.edu/mu/alumni.html), distinguished-alumni list. Captured 17 August 2026.
Where MIT Manipal actually sits. On NIRF 2025 it is ranked 59th in Engineering with a score of 52.55. That places it behind BITS Pilani (11), SRM (14), VIT Vellore (16) and Thapar (29) on the same list. It is a well-established private institute with an unusually strong campus experience and a genuine brand, but the ranking is not top-tier private and a page that tells you otherwise is selling. Choose it for the campus, the interdisciplinary access and the branch you can actually get — not on a ranking argument.
MET 2026: Exam Pattern, Eligibility & How to Apply
📌 In one line: 60 questions in 120 minutes for 240 marks, with negative marking on the 45 multiple-choice questions but none on the 15 numerical ones — and a second attempt exists, but only for candidates who sat Phase 1, and only on payment of a further ₹1,200.
MET 2026 is a single common entrance test used for B.Tech admission at MIT Manipal, MIT Bengaluru, Manipal University Jaipur and SMIT Sikkim. One test, four institutions.
| MET 2026 (B.Tech) | Detail | How to read it |
|---|---|---|
| Duration | 120 minutes | Two minutes per question on average, across all sections. |
| Total questions | 60 | Small paper. Every single question is worth 1.7% of the maximum. |
| Maximum marks | 240 | Each question carries 4 marks. |
| Multiple-choice questions | Mathematics 15, Physics 10, Chemistry 10, English 10 — 45 in all | Three-quarters of the paper, and the only part where a wrong answer costs you. |
| Numerical answer type | Mathematics 5, Physics 5, Chemistry 5 — 15 in all | No penalty for a wrong attempt, so leaving one blank is strictly worse than a considered attempt. |
| Marking — MCQ | +4 correct, −1 wrong, 0 unattempted | Four wrong guesses wipe out one correct answer. Guessing is not free here. |
| Marking — numerical | +4 correct, 0 wrong, 0 unattempted | Attempt all 15. |
| Attempts allowed | 2 — the second one conditional and paid | MAHE allows the second attempt in Phase 2 only if you applied on or before the last date for the first attempt, booked a Phase 1 slot and were present for it, and it costs a further ₹1,200 paid at Phase 2 booking. A candidate whose first attempt falls in Phase 2 gets no second attempt at all — applying late quietly costs you the retake. |
| English section | 10 MCQs | The section most candidates under-prepare, and the cheapest 40 marks on the paper. |

Eligibility for MIT Manipal B.Tech 2026
- Subjects: a pass in 10+2 or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics and English compulsory, plus Chemistry, Biotechnology, Biology or a technical vocational subject.
- MET route: a minimum of 50% aggregate taken together across Physics, Mathematics and one optional subject.
- JEE Main route: a minimum of 75% aggregate across the same three subjects, with admission through the JEE Main Common Rank List. Read that literally — the JEE route asks for 25 percentage points more in Class 12 than the MET route does.
- Application window 2026: MIT Manipal's B.Tech programme page lists 30 April 2026 as the last application date. Apply through MAHE's own portal at apply.manipal.edu.
Official source: MIT Manipal, B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering — Admission 2026 programme page (manipal.edu/mit/program-list/btech/btech-computer-science-engineering.html) for the eligibility percentages, and List of B.Tech Courses & Admissions 2026 (manipal.edu/mit/program-list/btech.html) for the application deadline. Captured 17 August 2026.
The MET application fee and the counselling fee are not listed in MAHE's published 2026 fee schedules, so no figure for either is quoted here. Both are shown to you on apply.manipal.edu at the point of registration — read them there before you pay. The one MET charge MAHE does publish is the ₹1,200 additional payment for a second attempt, made during Phase 2 booking and only by candidates eligible for it.
Admission Process — MIT Manipal B.Tech 2026 Step by Step
- Register and apply on MAHE's portal. Applications for the 2026 B.Tech intake close on 30 April 2026 per MIT Manipal's own programme page. At application you select three preferred test-centre cities in priority order; MAHE allots one of them where it can, but reserves the right to allot another city.
- Book your MET slot. Test date and batch are booked in MAHE's online test booking system on a first-come-first-served basis, subject to seat availability. MAHE's own instruction is blunt on this: a slot once booked cannot be changed, and no request to change centre city, date or slot is entertained. Book around your other entrance exams, not after them.
- Sit MET. 120 minutes, 60 questions, 240 marks. A second attempt is allowed in Phase 2, but only if you applied by the first-attempt last date, booked a Phase 1 slot and sat it — and it costs a further ₹1,200 at Phase 2 booking.
- Receive your MET rank and register for counselling. MAHE conducts its own online counselling; branch allotment runs against your stated preferences in rank order.
- Fill branch preferences honestly. Because closing ranks are not published, preference order is doing all the work. List every branch you would actually accept, in the order you would accept it.
- Accept the allotment and pay to confirm. Upgrade rounds follow, so an early allotment is a floor rather than a ceiling — but read each round's acceptance window carefully.
- Book hostel accommodation online. After admission, rooms are selected on MAHE's hostel portal. A selected room is held only briefly before payment, and preferred blocks go early.
- Complete document verification and report to campus. Documents are checked online and again physically on reporting.
If you are applying under the AICTE tuition fee waiver, that is a separate counselling track with its own registration — see the scholarships section below.
Branches at MIT Manipal — What Is Actually Offered
📌 In one line: there is no B.Tech in AI & Machine Learning, Data Science or Cyber Security at the Manipal campus — if that is what you are after, you are looking at the wrong campus.
MIT Manipal's own 2026 B.Tech course list names fourteen branches, grouped by stream:
- Computer: Computer Science & Engineering; Mathematics & Computing; Computer Science & Financial Technology.
- Electrical: Electronics & Communication; Electronics Engineering; Electrical & Electronics.
- Mechanical: Mechanical; Mechatronics; Aeronautical; Automobile; Industrial Engineering.
- Civil: Civil Engineering.
- Chemical: Chemical Engineering; Biotechnology.
Why you will also see “17 programmes” on MIT Manipal's own page. Its B.Tech course list opens with “There are 17 programmes available under Manipal Institute of Technology at the BTech level”, and the table underneath it names the same fourteen branches — but under Electronics Engineering it prints a “Specializations:” line naming Biomedical Engineering, Cyber Physical Systems, Instrumentation and VLSI Design and Technology. Those four are specialisations of Electronics Engineering rather than branches standing beside it, and the headline counts them individually in place of the single Electronics Engineering line: the other thirteen branches plus those four specialisations make seventeen. Both figures come from the same table and neither is wrong; they are counting different things. Fourteen is the count that matters when you fill a preference list, because that is how many branch names you can put on it.
Two of those fourteen branches have no published four-year fee. Automobile Engineering and Industrial Engineering are in the course list, but in MAHE's 2026-27 General Category Course Fees schedule they appear only as “B.Tech in Automobile Engineering - Lateral” and “B.Tech Industrial Engineering - Lateral” — three-year lateral-entry rows, which is the diploma-holder route into the second year. No four-year fee is published for either, so this page quotes none rather than assuming one of the bands above applies. If you are considering either branch through the regular four-year route, ask MAHE for the fee in writing before you commit to it.
Official source: MIT Manipal, List of B.Tech Courses & Admissions 2026 (manipal.edu/mit/program-list/btech.html), the “BTech Course List” table; and MAHE, 2026-27 General Category Course Fees (as on 04-07-2026), the “Manipal Institute of Technology, Manipal — Under Graduate Programs” list, pages 10-11. Both captured 17 August 2026.
Branch and fee are linked here. Computer Science, Computer Science & Financial Technology, Electronics & Communication and Mathematics & Computing sit in the top fee band at ₹24,42,000; Aeronautical and Mechatronics are ₹19,66,000; and Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Biotechnology, Electrical & Electronics and Electronics Engineering are ₹18,02,000. Those twelve are the only branches MAHE's 2026-27 General Category schedule prices for four-year entry. If you are choosing between a computer-band branch and a core branch, the fee difference of up to ₹6.40 lakh belongs in the decision alongside the placement question.
On branch change after year one: MAHE permits movement subject to academic performance and vacancy, but the qualifying CGPA is set by the institute and is not published in any 2026 admission document, so no threshold is quoted here. Plan on keeping the branch you are allotted.
Scholarships & Fee Waivers at MIT Manipal
📌 In one line: the one waiver MAHE documents in full for 2026 is the AICTE tuition fee waiver — capped at 5% of each branch's intake, and gated on a family income below ₹8 lakh.
| AICTE Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW), 2026 | Detail |
|---|---|
| Applies to | B.Tech, any branch, at MIT Manipal and MIT Bengaluru |
| Seats | Not exceeding 5% of the General intake in each branch — read that literally, it is a small number per branch |
| Entrance requirement | You must hold a MET 2026 rank |
| Academic requirement | Minimum 50% aggregate in Physics, Mathematics and one optional subject, with at least pass marks in each |
| Income limit | Parents' combined gross annual income from all sources, before any deduction, less than ₹8 lakh for FY 2025-26 |
| Proof | Self-attested income tax returns for FY 2025-26 for both parents, at the time of application |
| Process | A separate online counselling track from the general B.Tech counselling — registering for it confers no automatic right to a seat |
Official source: MAHE, Online BTech Counseling 2026 — All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Tuition Fee Waiver (TFW) Scheme, Information Brochure, sections 1.2 Participating Institution and 1.3 Eligibility Criteria. Captured 17 August 2026.
Other scholarship schemes. MAHE also operates merit and merit-cum-means schemes, but the 2026-27 eligibility slabs for those are not set out in the fee schedules or the counselling brochure, so no rank band or income figure for them is quoted here. Check the current slabs on manipal.edu before you count a waiver into your budget — and never treat an expected waiver as funding when you sign an education loan.
Management Quota, NRI & Direct Admission at MIT Manipal
There is no management quota at MIT Manipal. There are exactly three ways in, and all of them are on the record:
- MET 2026. The main route. Rank plus branch preference, through MAHE's own counselling.
- JEE Main Common Rank List. A separate route with a higher Class 12 bar — 75% aggregate against MET's 50%.
- Foreign / NRI category. A separate published fee schedule in US dollars, from US$28,400 to US$60,800 for the four years depending on branch.
If anyone offers you a paid “management seat” at MIT Manipal, there is no such seat to sell. The fee is the same for every MET-qualified student in a branch regardless of rank, which removes the pricing mechanism a management quota would need. Campus Life & Cost of Living in Manipal
Manipal is a purpose-built university town rather than a campus inside a city, and that shapes the student experience more than any facility list. Amenities, food, transport and healthcare on the main road exist largely to serve students, and the campus has a teaching hospital on it.
- Hostel capacity. Blocks are allotted online after admission, with separate boys' and girls' hostels and AC and non-AC options across single, double and triple sharing. The published tariff and totals are in the hostel section above.
- Food. Mess is compulsory for first-year hostellers at ₹62,000 for the year — roughly ₹5,200 a month — and that is the number to budget, not a lower “monthly mess” figure quoted elsewhere.
- Fests and clubs. Revels (cultural) and Techtatva (technical) are the two long-running student festivals, and the institute supports student technical teams including the Formula Student and aeronautical teams.
- Getting there. Mangaluru is the nearest airport; Udupi is the nearest railhead. Factor four return trips a year into a realistic cost estimate.
On off-campus living. Second and third-year students commonly move to flats in the town. Rents vary and are not published by the institute, so no figure is given here — but note that moving out does not release you from the hostel deposit rules, and MAHE's schedule states that shifting out to a flat does not entitle you to a refund of the hostel fee beyond the security deposit.
MIT Manipal vs VIT, SRM, Thapar & BITS Pilani
📌 In one line: on the one measure all five share — the NIRF 2025 Engineering list — MIT Manipal ranks below all four of these peers.
| College | NIRF 2025 Engineering rank (score) | Entrance | Fees & placements in detail | How to read this row |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MIT Manipal | 59 (52.55) | MET / JEE Main CRL | This page | The lowest NIRF position of the five. Its case rests on campus experience and the MAHE ecosystem, not on ranking. |
| BITS Pilani | 11 (67.02) | BITSAT | BITS Pilani | The highest-ranked private engineering institute on the 2025 list. It stood at 20 on the 2024 list, so this is a recent move. |
| SRM Institute of Science & Technology, Chennai | 14 (65.83) | SRMJEEE | SRM Chennai | Ranks above VIT on the 2025 list, which reverses the order most people assume. |
| VIT Vellore | 16 (65.25) | VITEEE | VIT Vellore | VIT stood at 11 on the 2024 list. If you see “VIT NIRF 11” quoted without a year, that is the 2024 position, not the current one. |
| Thapar Institute, Patiala | 29 (60.97) | JEE Main | Thapar | NAAC A++ accredited. Closer to MIT Manipal than the others on brand, well ahead on rank. |

Read the NIRF rank for what it is. It is a composite of teaching and learning resources, research and professional practice, graduation outcomes, outreach and perception — it is not a placement ranking and not a fee-value ranking. A college can rank well on research strength while offering you a worse individual outcome than a lower-ranked one, and the reverse. Compare each college's fee against its median salary on its own page before you let a rank number decide anything. Fee and placement figures for the four peers live on their own pages above, each sourced there — this page does not restate them, because a fee quoted second-hand is how contradictions start.

Expert Tips — B.Tech Aspirants Choosing MIT Manipal
- Negative marking changes your MET strategy. Four wrong multiple-choice guesses cancel one correct answer, while the 15 numerical questions carry no penalty at all. The order of play is therefore: attempt every numerical question, and only attempt MCQs you can genuinely reason about.
- Do not under-prepare English. Ten of the sixty questions are English, worth 40 of the 240 marks, and they are usually the least demanding on the paper. Skipping them to spend more time on Mathematics is a poor trade.
- Book your MET slot before you book anything else. A slot once booked cannot be changed and no clash request is entertained, so fix MET against your JEE and state-exam dates before confirming.
- Let the fee band into the branch decision. Four years of a core branch costs ₹18,02,000 against ₹24,42,000 for the computer band. If the core branch genuinely suits you, that ₹6.40 lakh is real money against a median outcome that is not branch-guaranteed either way.
- Budget the hostel honestly. The published first-year hostel-and-mess totals run from ₹1,27,500 to ₹2,54,000, and mess is compulsory in year one. Plan on the room you are likely to get, not the cheapest one in the schedule — the cheapest boys’ room is flagged limited-seat by MAHE itself.
- Model your loan against ₹8.50 lakh, not a headline. That is the median the institute itself reports. If the numbers work at the median, the college is affordable for you; if they only work at a top-decile offer, it is not.
