What the institute-level round is allowed to do
The institute-level and post-CAP vacant seats are the last stage of the 2026-27 process, and on 21 August 2026 the CET Cell issued a public notice setting out how colleges must run it. Institutes must follow Rule 13 of the Information Brochure; institute-level admissions may be made only after all CAP rounds are complete, and strictly on the inter-se merit of the applicants. Every institute must publish its institute-level rules, process and prospectus on its own official website, prepare a merit list from the applications it receives together with the candidate list the CET Cell supplies, display that merit list on its notice board and website, and record each confirmed admission on the CAP portal immediately. Candidates may apply to a college directly, or submit the institute-level Option Form through their own CAP login.
The same notice warns candidates and parents not to be drawn in by any agent, intermediary or private counsellor claiming to arrange a seat before the CAP rounds are finished, and not to act on admission information circulated through social-media links — only the CET Cell’s portal or the institute’s own official website should be treated as authoritative. Percentile vs marks — what your score really means
MHT-CET is held across multiple sessions, so raw marks are converted to a normalised percentile to keep things fair across shifts. A percentile tells you where you stand relative to all candidates — a 99+ percentile means you are in the top 1%. Always build your college list on percentile, not raw marks, because every official cut-off is published as a percentile.

MHT-CET 2026 cut-offs — the official CAP Round I and Round II closing percentiles
📌 In one line: these are the percentiles at which the last open-category candidate was actually admitted in each round of the 2026-27 CAP, taken from the CET Cell’s own cut-off lists — not estimates.
Which seats these are. Every figure above is the GOPENS column — General category, Open, State-Level seats. All four institutes are autonomous, so every seat in their CAP list is a State-Level seat; there is no separate Home University quota sitting beside these numbers.
A closing percentile is not a bar you have to clear. It is the percentile of the last candidate the round happened to admit, and it is set by who applied and how high they placed that college in their option form. Nothing here is a target score.
Round II does not automatically close higher. SPIT’s CSE cut-off tightened from 99.8804 to 99.9078 between Rounds I and II, while COEP E&TC and PICT IT eased very slightly. At VJTI Computer Engineering the open state-level seats were gone after Round I, which is why that cell reads “no open-category seat left” rather than a number.
Check your own category, not the open figure. Reserved-category, Ladies, TFWS, PwD, Defence and Orphan closing percentiles are published in the same two documents and sit below the open ones.
SPIT has no “Data Science” branch in the 2026-27 CAP list. The CET Cell lists three SPIT branches this year — Computer Science and Engineering, Computer Engineering, and Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.
These are Rounds I and II only. They should not be read as a projection for Round III, Round IV, the institute-level round, or next year.

The CAP round strategy that wins seats
The Centralised Admission Process (CAP) is where seats are actually won or lost. Get the choice-filling right:
Option-form order: list your dream college first — allotment always tries your highest feasible preference, so a higher choice never hurts.
Ambitious–Realistic–Safe: group choices into three tiers and fill plenty (100+) so a single weak round never costs you the year.
Document e-scrutiny: get your domicile, caste/EWS and income certificates verified early — unverified documents block allotment.
Float vs Lock: float if you have a backup and want an upgrade in the next round; lock only when you are satisfied.
Where this applies on 23 August 2026: only Round III (allotment 24 August) and Round IV (option form 30 August – 1 September, allotment 3 September) are left. Round IV is the last round, so “float for an upgrade” has nowhere left to run in it — the notice states that the Round IV allotment made or retained is final.

The 2026 process for MHT-CET, explained
Engineering admission in India runs on a merit-and-counselling model, and MHT-CET fits into that system through a mix of routes. Qualify JEE Main and you can enter JoSAA/CSAB for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs; most states run their own CET and centralised CAP-style counselling; and many private colleges offer transparent institutional or management seats for candidates just below the merit line. The smart approach is to treat these as parallel tracks rather than a single queue.
National route: JEE Main score → JoSAA/CSAB choice-filling → seat allotment → reporting.
State route: the relevant state CET and its CAP rounds for domicile candidates.

Cut-offs and percentiles — without the confusion
The most common mistake is treating a percentile or a previous-year cut-off as a fixed promise. A JEE Main percentile reflects how you did relative to all test-takers and converts to an All-India Rank that shifts every year with difficulty and the number of candidates; closing ranks at any college therefore move season to season. Use last year's figures only as a directional guide, build a list with ambitious, realistic and safe options, and confirm the current cut-off on the official counselling portal before locking choices.
Building a smart college and branch shortlist
Within MHT-CET, the branch you secure shapes outcomes as much as the college name. Computer Science, AI and Data Science draw the strongest, most consistent software placements but the toughest cut-offs; ECE/EEE bridge software and core; mechanical, civil and other core branches align better with GATE, PSU and higher-studies tracks. If a strong-CSE seat at a slightly lower-ranked college is on the table versus a core seat at a bigger name, the CSE seat is often the better career bet.
