NEET PG 2026 Exam Overview
NEET-PG ranks candidates for the MD/MS, PG diploma, post-MBBS DNB and direct six-year DrNB courses within its notified scope. MCC conducts counselling for its notified All India Quota, deemed/central university and DNB seats. State authorities conduct their own eligible seat pools. Clearing this does not get you a seat. It makes you eligible to enter counselling. What decides a seat is your rank against the closing rank of the course and college you want, round by round, in MCC and state counselling — with outcomes varying by course, category and quota. Note also that the percentile is the rule; the score beside it is simply what that percentile worked out to this year, so it moves every year and last year’s figure proves nothing.

📌 In one line: 262 was not only the qualifying cut-off — it was the median. Half of everyone who sat NEET-PG 2026 scored 262 or below, so clearing the line puts you in the middle of the field, not ahead of it.
Of 2,73,096 candidates on the published result, 2,65,959 have a score, 7,136 are marked absent and one is withheld. The highest total was 641 out of 720, the average 274.39, and the lowest −59 — negative marking is real at the bottom of this paper.

Only 114 candidates out of 2,65,959 scored 600 or more, and rank 100 required 601. At the other end, the 200–299 band alone holds 71,507 people and straddles the cut-off, which is why so many candidates find themselves separated by a handful of marks and tens of thousands of ranks.

I scored above the cut-off. Does that mean I get a seat?
Qualifying makes you eligible to be considered, not assured of a seat. Allotment depends on your rank, eligibility, category, quota, branch, preferences and available seats in that round. Compare historical closing ranks only for the same course, institute, quota and category.
Why is the cut-off given as both a percentile and a score?
Percentile is a relative qualifying criterion; the corresponding score depends on that examination’s score distribution. Always keep the examination year and category with a cutoff. An earlier year’s marks are not a current qualifying score.
How many candidates appeared in NEET-PG 2026?
2,63,544 candidates appeared on 30 August 2026, and 2,416 at the 5 September re-examination.
What happened at the Jaipur centre?
NBEMS records an internal power failure at iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura, Jaipur (test centre codes 41682 and 41683), where the scheduled candidates could not complete their paper. Those candidates — and only those — sat a re-examination on 5 September 2026.
Was the 5 September sitting a second chance for everyone?
No. It was a re-examination for the affected candidates at that one Jaipur centre. It was not an additional attempt open to other candidates, and the 2,416 who sat it are not extra seats or an extra intake.
How is the NEET-PG 2026 rank calculated?
It is your overall merit position among everyone who appeared, worked out from the actual marks you scored plus the tie-breaking criteria set out in the NEET-PG 2026 Information Bulletin. It is not derived from the percentile.

What happens after the result?
